Authors Craft

      When an author is writing a book, they use a certain craft to let the reader make a connection with the story. Or at least to make the story seem more realistic. The craft that the author uses controls the way the reader perceives the writing. They use different techniques to make you feel different emotions. Craft is extremely important in a story.

     Authors seem to have a certain craft throughout books that they write. For example, Ellen Hopkins, the author of the series including "Crank" and "Burned", uses a certain craft. She writes all of her books in verse, or in poetry. This makes the reader interpret the story differently then if it was written in paragraph form.It makes the books a lot more interesting and fun to read. And makes you have to stop and think about what the author is trying to convey by writing the book in different ways.

     Also, sometimes authors write the story in the way that the character in the book might write it. Opposed to how they might write it. In "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime" the author writes the book the way the main character, Christopher, would. Since Christopher has a hard time figuring out people's emotions, the author writes the book the way Chris sees it. This helps you learn more about Christopher as a character overall.
